margan
Hi Guys I am in the process of buying a 2003 freelander with 32,000mls, 2.5v6 ES, A great car except when it changes gear there is quite a voilent thud..then drives ok until the next change, the current owner says his daughter when through some flood water & then this problem started. Any body got any thoughts or history of this type of thing, it nearly feels like something is loose....
Dorsetfreelander
Might be worth having a look at this site and/or contact them before buying. This could be an expensive problem. http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/

viorelluta
A similar symptom on a VW Passat led to the following cause: the "valves block" needs to be replaced (the hydraulic actuators). The cost is aronud 2,000 eur. I like auto gearboxes, but when they break, they cost you a lot... viorel
margan
Update: Got the car plugged into a diagnostic machine, turns out the oxygen sensor is gone (drinking fuel) and they say it will affect the gear change as the engine management is all over the place with the faulty sensor on order so let wait and see. Mr Bean
it will be interesting to see if it fixes the gearbox

Great news, new oxygen sensor fitted and the car is now driving perfect.
