Tris Cocks
Im in the middle of overhauling my brakes and after fighting with the bleed nipples to get them out they are in no fit state for reuse. i went to the local Land rover repair place and asked for some new bleed nipples and the only ones they had are longer in the thread by about 8mm but they say that they are correct as its the only ones that use Is there two types of bleed nipples or have they been changed to just the longer ones? rtbarton
Which vehicle? what age? The length doesn't matter as long as they don't foul anything. The thread and the shape of the end that fits inside the cylinder are important.
Tris Cocks
The vehicle is a 1998 300Tdi 90 but from what i can tell its got a 110 front axle and either a disco or a range rover rear axle. The thread and the shape at the end looks the same though
Aragorn
what makes you think the axles have been changed? The thread being longer wont affect anything, as long as it goes in and bottoms out against the sealing seat then your good.
Tris Cocks
the piston sizes from the calliper on the front axle are larger than a standard 90 front pistons (46mm dia by 31mm as opposed to the standard 41mm dia by 34mm) and the rear has got thr right size pistons but the single piece half shaft from either a disco or possible a range rover but they all use the same rear calliper - more of an assumption on the rear axle than anything else)
Aragorn
a 1998 defender 90 will have had 46mm pistons on the front as standard, they changed over when the went to the 300tdi in 1994 afaik. it will also have had single piece half shafts as standard

Tris Cocks
Ive just got round to photographing the two differnt bleed nipples, does anyone know if the short ones are still available as im not liking the distance the longer ones stick out from the calliper. western
Tris, have a look here at the Brake bleed screws section or try Mill Auto's in various Cornish towns.
