My 1998 defender 110 county runs fine however the engine intermittently cuts out leaving me stranded extremely embarrassing on weigh bridges etc. However engine will start again after a few minutes and runs fine. Over the last few months the problem is occuring more frequently. It feels as though there could be debris in the fuel line which blocks fuel flow causing engine failure then after resting for a minute maybe the debris moves allowing fuel to pass? My garage has cleaned fuel filters but problem persists. Can anyone help.

On my 200Tdi I've been searching for a fuel starvation problem in the past. It drove me mad. In the end it ended up being paper towels inside my replacement fuel tank. Small particles being sucked into my fuel pump blocking supply at higher revs.

If it's a newer engine like Td5 i guess it might be something electrical?

Cheers

Marco

If its a TDi it could be a problem with the stop solenoid or the wiring to it?

Or perhaps the alarm spider?

I'd go with the stop solenoid - my 300tdi kept cutting out intermittently, it took me ages to track the problem down to the stop solenoid. Only took a minute to fix it though! :)
