chrisoleary
I see Aldi have arc welders in tomorrow for £35, has anyone tried these and are they any good?
M&S
Looks similar to my SIP welder. To be honest for that money I don't reckon you can go wrong with it! Get your rods elsewhere though, they are a bit pricey!
WESTENDER
i have the same one with a different name, SIP, not bad at all with the smaller rods but it does tend to let the smoke out quite quickly using heavier rods oh and you will definately need a welding mask/helmet as the one with the welder is pants
chrisoleary
Well I got one for my son who has just started a fabrication apprentiship. I know nowt about welding so will get my mate to try it out when he comes to weld my rear xmember on. I thought the rods weren't too bad at 3.99 for about 100 rods. cactus
When they were on offer in the summer, a friend bought one.... He came round to weld my gate hinge.. After a 50mm run it cut-out! 20 mins later it still wasn't working.. I disassembled it and bypassed the thermal cut-out, which had self distructed!! Welded another 50mm and couldn't see for the smoke bellowing out of the welder...So.... Don't buy one if you expect to weld with it!

I see you can't put them on standard 13a plugs.
Night Train
You may be better off with a second hand, but better, welder from Ebay and then adding a cooling fan to the back of it. I did that with two of my old SIP welders, the £50 type, and both are still good though one I broke the adjuster on when I dropped it. I will be putting a big fan on the back of my other old Clarke 180A welder too soon so that I have a portable and a workshop set.
M&S
I bought this one from Toolstation (they don't do it anymore): http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_165727_productId_269739_langId_-1?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-Workshop+%26+Tools%2FWorkshop+Equipment-_-SIP+Weldmate+T140P+Arc+Welder&source=shopping&istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istItemId=miarit&istBid=t Welds 1-3mm perfectly. I'm welding 6mm with it at the moment and it's on the limit but...I paid £60 for it and don't need gas It does have a fan built in (turbo!)
