crwoody
As Peter says - "Dim Dip" - the dipped beam filament of the headlight is fed with a reduced voltage, (via a resistor) when the sidelights and ignition are switched on together. Retroanaconda
It's a three-stage system for the headlamp. Dim - On but dimmed, with sidelights Dip - On (nearly) full power, but dipped down and to the left Full - On full power straight ahead. 200Tdi are fitted with it, at least mine is
western
some of the last TD's in CSW trim had it too, no longer a legal requirement for UK.

As said, it's dim dip on he TD5. Controlled by a pink relay behind the dash. You can remove it and (apparently, I haven't yet done so, but it looks right from the wiring diagram) short pins 2 and 8.
