TonkaIIa
Hi all, I'm in the process of installing a set of Subaru STI front seats into my series IIa, I currently don't have any seat frames for them to fit to the seatbox. The passenger tool box was badly rusted, so I'm having a new one made which will also house the batteries. I've come up with some idea's, but I'd like to see how other people have installed their seats in a series and still been able to get to the battery compartment under the passenger seat as this is the area I'm not getting to grips with. I'm also installing a 4 point harness to the front seats, which I will be using the original seat belt mounting points and fitting the shoulder straps to the rear tub upper section just behind the seat(s) which I feel will be a strong holding point! Any advise/guide or pictures would be must appreciated. Cheers Gary
rtbarton
I fitted some Metro seats to my SIII by bolting them to a piece of plywood which in turn was hinged at the front with a large hinge in the centre and held in place at the back with captive bolts & winged nuts. The hingepin was an R-clip so it could easily be removed and the seat lifted out.
Night Train
When I had a S3 I fitted MGB seats. I made up tapered hardwood spacers to bolt the MGB runners to the seat box to get them level. The MGB seats had so much provision for sliding on the runners that I could tip the back forwards and slide the seat base all the way forwards and have almost clear access to the seat box. FridgeFreezer
I fitted Defender seats they bolt in and work perfectly, almost like they were made for it
Chris x
I fitted Defender seats they bolt in and work perfectly, almost like they were made for it Thats todats job for me! I have had a quick look...Did you fit the Defender seats using the Series runners or remove the series runners and fit all the defender bits. Cant work out how im going to undo the old runner due to the fuel tank being in the way...if thats the case. Thanks!
Retroanaconda
I fitted Defender seats in my 88", removed the Series III runners and just bolted the seats through where appropriate. Re-used one mounting hole I think, but the rest I made. I added some rivets to help hold down that little end top panel on the seatbox. I cheated, my seatbox is Defender but I believe the seats & runners pretty much bolt down (with spacer washers as per Defender) to the Series box. The bolts are M8 or M10, and the standard seatbox they just have 8 rivnuts in.
Retroanaconda
M8 for seat bolts. I didn't bother with spacers, just bolted them through flat
