Chris x
Hi Guys, Im currently doing a 200 TDi conversion on my petrol Series 3. I have read thorugh the guide but cant determine wheither I need a petrol clutch or the diesel clutch to attach onto my TDi engine? My series 3 was originally a 2.25petrol. So I dont know wheither thats ok to use again or if I have to buy a series 3 diesel clutch? I will be re-newing no matter what, but I dont know what one to order. Any prefrences to what make would be best, or if I need to get an uprated clutch? Or is a bog standard clutch ok? It wont start slipping e.t.c. Thanks in advance! Les Henson
You need the clutch plate to fit your gearbox - splines are the same for both petro; and diesel. Thrust bearing is the series type as well. Clutch cover is the TDI one (if it's different from the series one). This is assuming that you are using the series bellhousing. Les. Chris x
Perfect, thanks for that! Clutch is ordered and should be here on Wednesday, so hopefully I can then drop the lump in!
Snagger
Put in a new spigot bush for the crank shaft, too - if the original is worn, the primary pinion will be able to wobble, causing some movement in the main shaft too, which can cause the gears to jump out of selection (especially on the over-run). They cost virtually nothing, so it's definitely worth the effort.

Im guessing there easy to come by? Thanks for the suggestion! Well worth replacing bits whilst its all apart!
Chris x
Seems as if my local Land Rover place have let me down as they can only get britpart series cluctch, which im not interested with, expecially with the TDi engine. Can anyone recommend a decent quality clutch to go with my TDi engine? Not to bothered on the price.

Snagger
Delphi or Borg & Beck clutch plates will be fine. The spigot bush on the Tdi is the same as on the SII/SIII.
difflock
Paddocks sell a AP (Borg And Beck) clutch plate for £30 + VAT... If that helps....
