OT spooky numbers

Now that is wierd. I tried it 5-times and it was right every time.

I even did daft things like not looking at it for more than just a brief glance.

Can't figure-out how it works either.

Les. :)

school boy magic.

think of the number as being made up of tweo digits a and b written as ab

and its value is: 10 x a + b.

now add up the two digits: a + b.

subtract the two from the original number:

10a + b - (a+B) = 10a + b - a - b = 9 a.

Look at the table, all the multiples of 9, which is what your result has to be, have the same symbol.

SPOOKY!!!!

Very old my dad told me this one when I was about 13...

get them every time

Awright then mr smarty pants jules:

1. think of a number

2. double it

3. add twelve to it

4. halve it

5. subtract the number you first thought from it

6. the number you have now is ........

6.

well, I can't figure out the mental side as I beat it the first time, and then chosing numbers off bottles and bits of paper it worked six times so far perfect, not even following a sensible thought pattern as it was the first two digit number that I would find on a sheet of paper et cetera

yeah- can give me a value for i please?

the value of Pi's another good one seeing as it seems to bea never repeating number (can't remember there proper mathematical names!)

^^^^ irrational number.

didn't work for me

i always think of th square root of -2

Wrong; that is a formula not an number. Unfortunately neither you nor anyone else can think of the actual value (square root of 2) as it has no end nor any repeating sequence; another example of irrational number. :P

This is quite clever, by changing the symbol in the table which coresponds to the multiples of 9, you tend not to notice that all the multiples have the same symbol. About the best implementation I've seen! (even had me going for a bit!)

welkl tecnhically the square root of -2 is a description of a number- and no one said in the first example that you had to think of an integer did they?

technically the root of a negative cannot be an irrational number, it has to be an imaginery numbe, as the answer cannot be conceptualised. :P
