brighouse shed
Hi guys need to ask what is probably silly question. I have 1991 200Tdi and on RHS of steering column is a mushroom like switch. This sits behind the wiper stalk and the rear fog stalk. when pulled it has a red illuminated tip. But what is it actually for other than to light up my knees? thanks
smokinv8
Sounds like your rear fog light switch to me.
western
probably for a rear worklight os spot/fog lights that a previous owner has removed, rear fog switch is either a short stalk or rocker switch.

western
rig a test bulb to the wires at the bracket [assuming there are wires] & then operate the switch, if the bulb lights you know what the switch is for, I have a similar pull switch in the same location for my front fog lights, the hole/bracket in the column covers was originally for the choke cable on petrol engined vehicles & just blanked off in diesel vehicles.
