Russell_ds80
on my 1989 90 the fuel light flashes if you brake hard or accelarate hard. the gauge reads around half and ive looked inside and its about half full. so why does it flash?? cheers
western
due to the movement of the fuel & sender unit arm inside the tank, usually starts to flash with around 20 litres remaining, not much you can do about it, the tank does have internal baffles. Russell_ds80
i might disconnect it then because it gets on my nerves. am i right in saying that it will be one of the three wires on the top of the sender.??
Unsworth
Mine doesnt flash until there is like 10 litres in the tank? This is on a 1988 90 too!
Retroanaconda
Some pre-Td5 vehicles had a damping circuit fitted, my 200Tdi did. Was a little circuit board behind the dash, wrapped in a tape stuff. Td5 vehicles have a fuel gauge that is damped by the speedo head as the signal passes through it. I'll see if it's shown on the wiring diagram.
Retroanaconda
I could never find any mention of it on any diagram I had. I was under the impression the standard setup was to take the low fuel light feed from the sender unit on the tank itself. That's what the diagrams all show. My sender unit only has two wires on it. Earth and the signal. The low fuel light terminal is unused, the power for that warning light instead being fed from this weird PCB in the dash. It comes from the Td5 speedo now. Next time I'm in the dash I'll fish it out and examine it more closely.

They were part of the wiring harness and not a separate part. 300TDi era has no low fuel light.... The thread has a link for a nice aftermarket one.
