nakedrunner
Hi peeps. A relative in Orpington (miles away from me) apparently has a diesel Freelander 1 with a failed diff. There are tales of viscous couplings / IRD etc as being a more probable fault. She is in the hands of a local garage that seems unable to source a suitable, non new, item (new is too expensive). Assuming the diagnosed failed diff is correct can anyone suggest a likely source, breakers etc? Many thanks folks. I'm into series LRs so a bit unsighted on this. JonT
Recon rear diff at Bell Engineering for £325, plus £200 surchage if no excgange unit supplied http://www.bellengineering.co.uk
wriggs
Yes! I too, will recommend Bell Eng. they fitted me a 2 wheel IDR unit for just over £500. 3,500 miles ago and she is still purring along nicely. They do the VCU's for around a £100 cheaper than Landrover. A very experienced and friendly family, i found.
FridgeFreezer
Or save yourself a pile of cash and remove the diff, rear shafts, propshaft and VCU and have it as front-wheel-drive. I've done tens of thousands of miles like this in mine. The garage will need to gut the rear outer CV's (remove balls & cage) as the outer holds the wheel bearings together, but it's not a big job.
