Tranfer box leak

VERY OLD DISCO

My Disco 200 Tdi transfer box appears to be pressurising and blowing oil out from somewhere on the top.

The breather is clear (I can blow and suck through it).

I have filled it to just below the level of the correct plug (the one with the 1/2" socket).

Any other ideas?

i cant think why it'd presurise if the breather is clear. sure its the tbox leaking? there is a couple of oilseals & a gasket between the boxes where they mate, could be leaking from there.

Well done Andy! On closer inspection the bolts that hold the transfer box onto the main box were found to be loose. I tightened them about a turn or half a turn each. No Leak :-) Oh joy, now all I have to do is get the oil stains off my drive.

just recalled something else. some of those bolts, at least the two that go in from the front go right into the tbox rather than blind holes. so if it leaks again you want to drain the tbox, remove the bolts, clean them & put back with some sort of sealant over the threads.

i forgot to add sealant when i bolted my gbox/tbox back together & had a slight weep ever since. im ignoring it as i plan to swop the gearbox again & rebuild the tbox with in a couple of years. doesnt leak enough to need topping up anyway.

its 6 bolts in total, you did find all four at the back as well didnt you?

it was easy for me when i had to find them the first time. both boxes where on the floor next to the car - not fun removing them in the road on a trolley jack. less fun putting them back.
