Cb help

Recommended Posts

starting to rig up my cb the other day and thought i would do a trail run to see how good it is. using a 5ft whip and a proper mount, i can reach out for about half a mile, swr reading is very good, however it does not reach out as far as it did in my pajero, where it would easily reach out using a mag mount about mile and half and on a good day 2 miles. cb is a midland 38. Could it be the location of my Ariel which is mounted onto the rear of the roof, to the left of the door.

any help would be great

If you are comparing a setup where the aerial was roughly in the middle of the roof on the Pajero with one where the aerial is to one side or to the rear of the roof on the Landrover then you will find the reception will be much more directional on the LandRover.

Remember also that the reception sensitivity matches the output power distribution (the physics is the same whether you are sucking or blowing!) and that probably won't help either.

got my CB antenna on a gutter mount fitted above the B post door pillar of my 110, works fine, make sure the mount has a good earth contact with the body, preferrably to bare metal, which can then be coated with waxoyl to keep any moisture at bay.
