FridgeFreezer
Especially useful if you've got a dead microwave oven kicking about: http://hackaday.com/2009/06/23/how-to-build-your-own-spot-welder/#more-11565
mickeyw
Hmmm, like it's simplicity. One day when I have nought else to do/ need a spot welder....
elbekko
Well, I do have a microwave emitter laying about from an old microwave I took apart... I was thinking more along the lines of ray gun though, although I guess this could be handy too.

Car alarm that gives you a nice 'warming' sensation - immediately prior to the painful head exploding death! Si
longlandy
Quite a brutal design with the contacts permantly live, as with spot welding you should have a pre clamp time before power to ensure a clean good weld. BTW to spot weld aluminium stainless contacts make it successful

longlandy
Yes, though my statement is based on using a quality, but average sized welder.Experimentation is required on spot times. Zintec sheet can produce very unreliable welds.
Deej
Is the contact material the only difference needed to weld ally? Makes sense as with spot welding you aren't adding additional material as with MIG/TIG etc, you are simply heating the two metal sheets in a localised area until they fuse together.
