SPendrey
Nothing more than a rant and rave... but I bet the person who designed the rear light cluster on a 300TDI hasn't ever changed the rear/stop light Why is it so difficult to do? End of rant.
dooroy
I often wonder about the word 'design' as it applies to cars. As for the Discovery - having had a few tussles changing bulbs in 7 seaters - I now remove the rear lens . I find it easier to manage the screws holding on the lens than trying to remove and replace a bulb.
axlechorus
Its is pain in the ****. However thinking about it at least LR didn't do what fiat did for my punto front headlight and put a fuse box right behind where you popped the back of the headlight off
nicedayforit
If you do need to replace a bulb in the rear cluster, replace them all while you are at it.
Dannytd5
The 99-2002 discovery rear brake blub is a pain too you unscrew 4 screws the lamp comes off then you see a further 10 screws holding the bulb holder thingy in which ever monkey designed it never planned to own one and change a bulb
MartinK
I replaced all mine with LED versions, they last a lot longer. A very worthwhile upgrade. Usually around £4 for 2 off ebay... If in doubt, try this website http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/
leon_81
It is a massive pain in the ass, but my old car was worse - that was a grill and headlight out job to change a bulb!
disco_al
most modern cars require the front end to be dismantled to change a bulb. recently had a customer on the phone who had been quoted £60+vat to have a headight bulb changed on a galaxy (at the main dealer) IIRC xsara picasso's require the bumper to be removed to get at the bulbs. LR NUT
It is a massive pain in the ass, but my old car was worse - that was a grill and headlight out job to change a bulb! Both of my D2's are like that!

Ah, my previous car was a Galaxy (2000 MY), but I don't recall it being a pain (other than the auto gearbox failing!). Funnily enough I also owned a Punto many years ago! auf_wiedersehen_pet
Going back to the original post - the 300tdi cluster was originally from a Montego estate. No wonder it doesn't fit.

Pwyll
maestro van was where the light clusters were robbed from, and the door handles from the marina Let's face it, most of the Disco fixtures and fittings came from whatever parts bin was closest and fullest when they were "designing" it. Otherwise known as Midlands engineering.
