klint
Hi, i want an advice from you: my td5 defender (2004) have an horrible knocking sound at first 5-6 second from cold startup every morning.it's like a tumf tumf tumf, it comes out from bottom of the engine. I'm using a Castrol diesel magnatec 5w-40 oil and this have 2000km on it, oil filter is new, and the level is ok. What could be??

voevod
as far as I know the 5 refers to the oil's "cold" viscosity i.e.on startup...maybe you should get a thicker grade of oil
landy andy.
Is this noise caused by the lack of the fifth glow plug, so one cylinder is not running correct until it has warmed up ????????? Andy
JimAttrill
Hi Klint, did you post this on the Landyonline forum as well? Not that it matters really, just nice to see others on both foræ BTW you shouldn't use that cr@p oil. LR stealers™ use it, I have no idea why, some sort of bribery no doubt. Castrol Magnatec is a CF oil if you look at the tin; you should be using at least a CH in the TD5. Ignore the S(park) ratings for petrol engines. The C stands for C(ompression) Ignition ie diesel.
