trendkill
One of my friends has just bought a 300tdi discovery. She's asked me to disable the ABS, how do i go about doing that? ABS is all abit fancy compaired to my 90 so haven't done anything with it before. Thanks in advance!
Maverik
Take the fuse out... if it has one? begs the question, why does it need to be turned off?
fozsug
Why?
disco_al
as already asked, why? if it's randomly playing up, then the easiest way is to remove the abs relay from under the glovebox
trendkill
Apparently its randomly playing up? I'll remove the relay and see what she says, would help if she told me some symptoms! What are common faults with abs on disco's?

andy2986
Ive found, on mine, the most common thing that needs doing is the re seating of the ABS sensors. (just tap them gently till they wont go in any more) although this can mean that the wheel bearings might need adjusting You can do a 'blink test' which should give you a fault code. this will tell you where to look. I have found that the ABS on my disco is a good thing! (when working) Andy
nicedayforit
Although you can dis-able the abs as described above if the car needs an MOT in the future it will need to be operational for the test. Might be better getting the problem sorted now. Alternatively you can strip the entire abs system from the car and then go for an MOT. Not such a bad idea on an older car as the cost of parts for the system can be very expensive.
trendkill
That may be the best option then. Where would I start so far as striping it out then? Cheers
ChrisW70
You would remove the ecu, modulating pump and have to replumb the pipework. The compensating valve can be re-used but needs to be reconfigured. If you have the rave manual the 'isometric' layouts of the abs and non-abs set-ups is a good place to start. Range Rover Blues
AFAIK the Disco uses a convebtional master cylinder so you'd need to replace most of the pipes with new, non ABS layout, The rear axle only had one ffed so you need a different splitter on the diff casing there and the bias valve from a non-abs truck plumbing on the rear circuit (get the mounting angle right too). You can leave the front pipe routing as is though you'll find the pipes too long, leave the front ABS sensors in but disconnest them and coil the wiring upout of sight. Unplug the ABS system. Tell your insurance company.
