Help with electrics please

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've got a 99 Defender td5 110 which started life as a hard top that I've converted into a double cab.

I've got newer front doors that have e/w and c/l that I want to fit.

My thinking, (such as it is) is that a vehicle of this age won't have the appropriate loom for these fitted as standard.

As I know very little about vehicle wiring I'm looking for a bit of help.

For the windows I thought of installing a new fuse box under the seat and running a seperate feed to a relay then to the switch for each window.

The switches are the Carling ones for windows.

Is this the right way to do it?

If not, then how should I go about it?

If is, then what capacity fuses, relays and cable do I need? 20amp?

Would it be easier to buy an aftermarket kit for two windows, install them on the rear doors, and use their wiring?

For the central locking, my idea was again to buy an aftermarket kit, which seem cheap enough, and use the wiring from that to work mine, but if I did this, would I have problems with my alarm and immobilizer? I've read about immobilizer bypass modules etc but wouldn't have a clue where to start.

While I'm on the subject, I want to install a heated windscreen some time. Could I just use the wiring from the now defunct heated rear window?

As I say, I've very little idea about vehicle wiring, so any help or suggestions gratefuly recieved

Thanks

Rick
