Hello I'm new here and need a little help.

I've snapped the number 1 head bolt and need to take off the sump to

Get at it, is it possible to take sump off a 2004 freelander 1.8

Without removing engine block?

And any how to on this ?

I've removed the underbelly cover already .

looking through the hayes manual and trawling the net and cant find nothing on this it looks like an engine out job if nobody can help :(

You must ba able to taken the sump off with the engine in the car because one of the Head Gasket upgrades is a repalcement Oil rail and that is fitted in the sump, this can be fitted without removing the engine.

Its the Oil Rail that you have to get to as that is where the broken bolt is screwed into.

The sump comes off easy enough, think its a ring of 10mm bolts with a couple of 13mm into the bellhousing. You need to drop the exhaust off the manifold to get room to remove the sump and take the lower engine steady and IRD mount off on the RH. Easy job.

Its a simple job about 45mins all in. Dont forget to get some good RTV sealant to reseal the sump to the block! or those 10mm bolts will properly have to come out again lol.

Did this job myself a few months back
