Auntie
Was hoping to ask for advise before my Freelander goes in for its MOT but looking at the header it would appear that I will not be able to post as i havn't already made 5 approved posts.Anyway just in case it does go .Here goes. I have done 900000 miles in my freelander td4 all of these miles have been trouble free but whilst in south wales last summer in some astonishingly heavy rain the vehicle did not want to proceed up any slight hills and kept missing. Now after my partner has given it a wash with a jetter it again keeps missing and failed to want to start twice recently.I know most of you will think another gormless female driver but what could be causing it to happen A when wet and B when pointing uphill.? from Auntie. Hi You havent told us what type of Freelander it is- but Im going to proceed with my thoughts guessing its PETROL. The spark plugs lay deep in the engine- they are under a black cover on top of it with heavy wires going to them. If the throughts in the head get water in them- then the coils will short out and cause the missing you are talking about. From some experience with an MGF TF- which has the same K series engine- the coil packs are susetible to moisture in this way. Id remove the top cover- there are about 8 screws from memory, and pull the plg caps out, stuff a rag down the holes and dry and moisture from around the soft plastic plug caps- dry all the water out, spray with WD40 and see if that does it. a mifire is usually spark plug related. If you have 90k on the clock and havent had the coil packs go- you have done well! Get them off Ebay- they are about £40 each and Im sure they fit 2 plugs- sorry, but its some time sice Ive played with those engines. nickcc
Dependent on the year could be the rear fuel pump, mounted just in front of the o/s rear wheel (2005 TD4), water could be shorting out the electrical connections to the pump causing the misfire.
