I wish Pickles would do some slightly more mainstream policies - trouble with them was, they would limit me to 5k a year and wont do business use, but i guess the reason they are so good for others is that they only insure a niche (and lower risk) market.

Have you phoned them? This has happened a lot lately, and friends have had a call from their insurance companies asking why they didn't renew...then offering to match the price. Yes, too late, and you shouldn't have to, but if you are happy with the NFU and want to stay with them I'd call and see what they have to say.

PS - They didn't want my business when I tried them

2nd vote for Lancaster, renewal still the same price, agreed value as mine is modded, plus off road cover for shows and events, and green lane cover, and no charge for comutting cover,

well happy with thier service over the last 3 years, not the cheapest, but a total package that suits my needs

It's not just LRs. I rang loads of people o insure the noddy car, my business insurance was £380 ish and I thought I could do better. Ramg my union, I thought they should be able to do bespoke cover thast perfectly matches my needs, I need "business" use to travel between sites once a week for example. Well they wanted £750odd, I thought at first that was the value they placed on the car rather than the premium.

Unhappy with your renewal? apparently it's the ambulance chasers we have to blame for it. Nothing to do with how much modern pedestrian friendly cars cost to fix at all!

Lancaster and Frank Piccles dont do bus. use, Tesco were £1050  NFU reduced it from £410 to £376 but upping my excess from £150 to £250, BUT interestingly the fact that I had a 'non factory' but there since new imobiliser, AND a disklok, made NO difference to the price.

Brought this up before! I have an expensive 24 hr monitored tracking system with remote cut out from control centre. Discounts= none! When I said on here that I should be able to claim a finders fee for any other vehicles found because of the use of my system at my expense, some one on here thought that unreasonable. Well it's paid for by me and clearly not mr insurance so why should they benefit in recovered cost at my expense?

Oh and yep NFU I had to prod them with a stick to reduce the new policy to the same as last year but they didn't really sound that bothered if I moved.

i have my defender with adrian flux who were the cheapest by a mile for me, and i have my motorbike with bike sure who are run by adrian flux. just had the renewal for the bike and its gone up £16 A MONTH which is a 27.5% rise. if my defender goes up by the same percentage margin as the bike has it will be an extra £38ish A MONTH anyone good at maths will be able to work out what im paying to insure my beloved bike and truck but im afraid it will be goodbye to both if i cant sort something out. im 22 with a heavily modded 1997 defender and 1 years no claims and a gsxr1300 hayabusa with 5yr no claims

Insurance is a bizarre world.

My Defender was insured with Lancaster last year for £230, renewal is £699 - apparently because the insuring company no longer covers vehicles of that age.

Adrian Flux were "over £300", Frank Pickles quoted £180, Footman James (who cover a classic car for me) £135.

YouChooseInsurance.co.uk quoted £9439!

I insured with NFU for 11 years, no claims, no points.

My renewal came through in February for my P38, the fee went from sub £600 to £1200 +

A call to check they had not made a mistake proved fruitless.

A search on the net led me to Admiral.

insurance renewals borders on fraud.

how many of us have had an insurance renewal through and its gone up 50% or more. So you phone them up and tell them to get f*cked and miraculously they can give you a fantastic new quote that is almost the same as last years!

Now if you look at your renewal notice it does say this is the best deal they can do for you and it will automatically renew if you do not respond. But it isnt the best price they can do, as they nearly always reduce it drastically when you phone and complain/threaten to leave! I would be tempted to report instances of this to the insurance regulatory body, as it is tantamount to theft and fraud. It is profiteering at its worst.

Just a word of warning about Footman James.............they apparently do not understand that many CSWs carry 11 or 12 seats (as standard from the factory). They also do not ask you to confirm number of seats, so if you have an 11/12 seat CSW, you may actually be uninsured by them as they only insure up to 8 seats. Its almost as if they expected you to declare it as if it was a modification - you cant win either way!! When i asked them what would happen if i removed the rear bench seats, i was told that they still wouildnt insure me as it had the capacity to hold 12 and i might put the seats back in (not that that wouldnt invalidate my insurance or anything!). So much for specialist 4x4 insurers!!

  • 1 month later...

I always hear mixed stories about NFU, but for me they've been excellent. I'm 19, currently on my 2nd 90, a 1999 td5 with an annual premium of £1100 with 2 years NCB.

It's on a 'light goods policy' as it's a pannel van, but no other insurance company would even look at me when I mentioned it was a Land Rover

NFU are very picky with postcodes to who they will insure, which fortunately I fall within a certain postcode and live in quite an agricultural area...

I did get a quote for a normal car...a 1.1 Citroen, and that had a premium of £3200! Think I'll stick with the Defender

I got an NFU quote today, unfortunately for them it took all day and several phone calls to get the quote and when I did get it, it was £200 more than who I ultimately went with. With less benefits too.
