Simon B
I did a couple of searches but could not find the answer to this; does anyone know if it is legal to transport jerry cans with fuel in on the side of a defender? I've seen plenty on roof racks but for me (fueling up a boat frequently) it would a pain and somewhat difficult for some of my shorter assistants. mmgemini
Simon. You are correct. No fuel on the side However at Driffield Sam Watson who's organising the RGS weekend has had made a double 20 litre jerry can holder with the spare wheel on the outside, the whole thing is a huge swing away can and wheel carrier for his Defender Sam posted this http://www.lro.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=69373 Just a note. Jerry cans are not permitted empty or full on ferries.... HTH
CwazyWabbit
On a related note if it's petrol in those cans you are limited to the quantity you can keep on/in a vehicle within 6 meters of a building, http://www.hse.gov.uk/fireandexplosion/petroleum/faqs.htm Apparently there is no limit for diesel (other than personal fortune obviously :-P ) The rules are different for business and private but it's quite interesting to see what quantities are allowed, for example 333litres of petrol in a vehicle with just a sticker and a fire extinguisher....
