By the way how much of the output shaft needs to be cut?
Bowie69
Measure to compare to the surf box
miggit
If you're looking at a centre diff rear axle, you might want to think about a Landcruiser 80 series.... they have an electronic diff lock! Disc brakes with an internal drum handbrake. Some of the Y60 Patrols had LSD's, but in my experience the Toyota axle is better in the sticky stuff! Bowie69
LC80 is offset like a LR...
RedLineMike
y61 patrol axle is ideal, plus given abdur's location, they will be a LSD axle which is more robust than the vacumn locker we got in the uk which breaks
Bowie69
Ideal solution then
miggit
So if the 80 Series is offset (very slightly that's why I'd forgotten), why not use the 80 series box, complete? they have a locking centre diff... the only thing they'd be lacking is the transmission brake... but I'm sure you could cobble up an X engineering type disc! Oh and they came in either 5 speed manual or 4 speed O/D auto with lockup at around 40 Mph.... none of this silly 90% lockup at 30-50, which eats torque converters when towing... the LC was either on or off.. way better! Bowie69
@Abdur, I found the thread that I cribbed the surf transfer case swap from, see pics here: http://www.lextreme.com/forums/index.php?threads/hilux-surf-ln130-1uz-fe.11361/
