stuck
Gent's, Any chance of the part number for the upper UJ on the lower steering column? (I can't find it on Microcat) If it makes any difference it's a 1999 / 2000 TD5. Thanks, Mick.

stuck
Cheers Ralph but I still can't find the part number for the part I'm looking for, It's the UJ that the bolts identified as number 8 in the drawing screw in to, am I being completely thick? western
part number is for the upper part of the linkage, the UJ is not sold seperately LR Direct https://www.lrdirect.com/QLG100000-Shaft-Assy-Strg/ Brit-car http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?xProd=90176 Exeter 4x4 store [last on the list] http://www.4x4store-exeter.co.uk/catalog/the%204x4%20store%20def%20cat/4th_DEFENDER_for_web/def%20web%20gallery/td5/steer.htm

Retroanaconda
So on my 200Tdi I can replace the upper UJ for £30, but if I had a Td5 it would cost me well over £100 as I'd have to buy the whole upper shaft. Madness!

Retroanaconda
I wonder if you can retro-fit the older column assembly to a Td5 vehicle, I don't think the location of steering box or fixed column changed at all, but there must have been a reason for the change. western
probably to comply with updated construction & use regs from the meddling EU.
stuck
I still don't understand why it's not available as a separate part. Just been out for another look, looks perfectly replaceable. Thanks for the replies Gents.
Retroanaconda
Perhaps an engineering supplier might be able to source you something. After all, a UJ is a UJ. If the size and fitment is correct then any will do
western
upper joint is a different design to the ear;ier UJ's. looks like it has special rivets to attach the oval shaped part to the UJ, maybe that part of the shaft is pressed in with a big interferance fit or peened over to make it a permanent non replaceable UJ.
