Even if it's Linux or Windows FTDI drivers are fairly ubiquitous and are included as standard normally so unless the IDs have been changed a normal FTDI driver should be installed.

The driver will appear as a normal COM port but might be identifiable if you look in the device manager. You need to find out which number it is. If you've got a physical port then that'll almost certainly be COM1.

I'm one step closer now! 

With the cable plugged in and the ignition on I was able to see it in the device manager and reinstall the driver and now it displays as comm port 5and I'm seeing live data for temps etc, so will have a play with the engine running!
