stuck
Never taken a LR gearbox out before, Is the bracket shown in the manual necessary or is it easy enough to balance the box on a decent trolley Jack? Cheers, Mick.
Retroanaconda
If you're careful, yes that's possible. Or build a wooden jig to hold it steady on the jack. Personally I'd lower it from a frame inside the vehicle. Either an engine hoist in through the door, or a bit of box-section over the seat bases (for transfer box) or over the transmission tunnel/footwells (for main gearbox) with some rachet straps that you can let down gradually. wermy
My vote is for an engine crane in through the door Just a rope looped front and back of the main / transfer box and knock the crossmember out before lowering. You have a lot more control over the whole process and you can twist it all so that it line up.
