Hybrid_From_Hell
Hi All Building myself a extra workbench Q relates to the topping - which is 1" SoftPly board (no, don't start it was free ) This is not going to last well as is, as its very absorbent and easy to wreck so what to coat it with ? I have had friends suggest Floor Paint - not convinced Varnish - equally not convinced, will chip like **** PVA Glue 50/50 with water x 3 coats - erm ?? So, any ideas and / or comments above ? I don't wnat to steel coat this ones as it will be more a packing / inspection bench but need some form of protection for it Help / Thoughts ? roguevogue
Floor paint is a good choice. Floor paint is only celulose paint in a can with floor paint written on it.

Gazzar
How about a sheet of 1/4 inch ply? Or some laminate floor covering held in place with screws, that way you can change it when you have to use it for grinding, hammering, drilling, welding and all the other stuff you should do on the other benches that are covered with carp, sorry, valuable bits. mickeyw
Formica? My workbench is formica covered. Has been on there for absolutely years, but looks a little tired now. Easy to wipe clean and resists abrasion reasonably well.

roguevogue
There's a 2m long bit of kitchen work top here. If you only want to use this bench as packing/dispatch why do you think it is going to wear at all?
