ajh
Anyone done something to say use a chainsaw to run a battery charger? Since it is something commonly taken on expedition I was thinking that one might make a special bar where the end cog can also spin an alternator or similar, for those interesting emergencies. discomikey
how about making some sort of softer pulley for the alternator, mount it somewhere solid and just hold the chainsaw on it, in theorey it shouldnt cut the pulley

Troddenmasses
Or go for a second battery with a very simple split charge system - useful for running extra lights / winch etc. If you include an over-ride switch, you can self jump-start. I have done this lots of times with a 200tdi when I have left the main lights on accidentally, no problems. Cheap, simple, useful.
