FridgeFreezer
From: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-14789036 Network Rail, which manages the bridge, said contractors will leave the iconic structure in December and will not need to paint it again for 25 years.... A 200-strong team has been applying a triple layer of new glass flake epoxy paint, which is similar to that used in the offshore oil industry. It creates a chemical bond to provide a virtually impenetrable layer to protect the bridge's steel work from the weather. Sounds like the sort of thing LR owners could really use! rtbarton
I bet it's going to be an even bigger pig of a job in 25 years when bits of flakey epoxy have to be removed!

rusty_wingnut
i think I know what this stuff is, can't say it is to impressive either. it's very thick and rubbery and a bloody nightmare to remove (if needed, for bolt tensioning etc) My chassis was done in an offshore spec epoxy coating and they are very tough, even when scratched they don't peel. Range Rover Blues
A mate of mine had a Marina that his dad reshelled and painted with off-shore epoxy. It still rusted.
rtbarton
A Marina would rust if you made it out of wood.
need4speed
I wouldnt even park down wind from a marina in case the wind transferred the metal cancer...

Funny how people use 'virtual' to prefix almost the opposite - "I've virtually finished it" = "I am just about to start it", "virtually impossible"="possible, but I had to do some work","virtual memory"="disk",etc so "virtually impenetrable"="penetrable" Nigel
