Dave K
I think 1988 was the last year of the Outer ribbed roof, so 1989 Model year.

crowmann
... also in Defender anorak corner the smooth roof also came with vents at the rear. Pinched of the Maestro van of the same vintage. Often blamed for leaks - wrongly so they were there to address condesation issues and air flow through the vehicle. Binned in 1991 they are a rare and sought after feature to all Defender spotters the world over. Some how they look naked without them. Retroanaconda
Pumas have ribs again, though they're not quite as pronounced.
western
those are only on the flat part of the roof on the newest models, the front slope section is smooth.
Smego
My e-reg 1988 has both ribs and the vents at the rear, does that make it special :-p
western
nope, just the previous roof, the vents above the rear end door were deleted with the 300tdi release on to the market.
Mo Murphy
Yes smego, it's very special - to those of us who understand the finer points of Land Rover architecture. You must cherish and preserve it and sell it for a large sum of money when ribbed roofs once again become de rigeur Mo

Landy-Novice
road tires on a land rover? when i was a child, i use to love playing on the roof and hanging off the ribs! once seen a painter painting some windows on the 3rd story using a ladder on a 110 roof using the ribs as an anti slip from curtain death!! I obtained a smooth roof with vents for my C plate 90, When it finally goes on the road with side vents on both front wings its going to cause confusion in the "Anorak Arena" G

western
When it finally goes on the road with side vents on both front wings its going to cause confusion in the "Anorak Arena" G my 110 is like that, when I needed a new right wing side panel, the only one I could get easily was a 300tdi panels, so 1 vent each side. gruntus
using the ribs as an anti slip from curtain death!! I'm sorry Landy-N, I couldnt resist it, Curtain Death....
