redben101
Hi Is this part number STC4858 ( clicky link ) the correct number for the differential flanges ( front + rear) of a 2001 Td5 90? Cheers Ben

redben101
To bring this up again i bought said flanges above, and they are circular instead of rectangular like are currently fitted. When i compared the new flange to the old flange it is approx 12mm deeper. In order to fit the new flanges do i remove the big washer that sits behind the flange, otherwise i am shortening the prop travel by 12mm? western
the big washer is a mudshield to keep rubbish out of the seal lip. this is the other type http://www.shop4autoparts.net/Defender/Axle/Differential/stc3722-flange-kit-diff-4-bolt-square.html
redben101
So to clarify i need to return the current circular flanges and get the rectangular ones?
Off Road Toad
NOOOOOO! it's not the mud shield. it's the flange spacer. you have bought the later type flange. Perfectly good for what you want and yes just take out the spacer that sits between the tail bearing and the flange, then it will be exactly the same dimension. All it is, is the spacer is now incorporated into the flange as one piece. Steve

western
didn't realise there was a spacer in the flange kit.
Off Road Toad
It's not part of the flange kit normally, its a special item like the pre-load shims. Landrover have realised there's no point making it seperate to the flange now. which makes sense really. Steve
