Guest diesel_jim
Bunch of t***s.... I've got a snorkel from them on my 300 Tdi 90. i've knackered the rubber pipe bit that connects the upright tube onto the bit that screws onto the wing. "sorry sir, can't sell you that bit. only if you can prove you hought the original one from us" what friggin difference does it make? "i bought it from you at Billing a couple of years ago" "well, we won't have any record of it then as we don't keep those sales, and our supplier won't let us split snorkels up. they have to be sold as a complete item" what a load of cr@p! just thought i'd post it on all the forums i'm registered on to let everyone know to stay away from them! anyone know where one can buy the bit of pipe? ??? freeagent
thats pretty carp customer service. you could try Mantec, as the rebel snorkel is a rip-off of Mantecs design....
BogMonster
Fairly standard behaviour for a pile em high sell em cheap operation though - I deal with Rebel regularly at work and their prices are excellent but the service is nothing to write home about.... we asked if the items could be invoiced to us instead of paying by credit card and the fax that came back simply said "No money no goods"!!! If it wasn't for the prices being so good I would have told them to shove it up their a*** right at that moment Mantec will probably tell you to contact one of their agents, I contacted them a few days ago (again from work) about getting something and they referred me to Britpart, who quoted me much less for the (Mantec made) item than Mantec quoted me for the same thing supplied direct a year ago! We have had individual snorkel bits from Mantec before, though it was a long time ago now (several years). Failing that you could check out the Accessories section in a LR parts manual as they sell the same snorkel in bits for about £300 or so, you should find a LR part number for just the hose and it'll "probably" be cheaper than a new complete snorkel! If all else fails then go on the prowl at the next LR show with a screwdriver
Hybrid_From_Hell
Maybe some 'kind soul' will send them a link to here so they can truly 'appreaciate' good publicity Nige
Mo Murphy
They sold me one a couple of years back, charged me £20 IIRC. Mo
JST
Speak to Southdown expect he would prob sell you just the pipe if its the bit that goes from the engine end of the snorkel to the air intake and is nothing fancy as thats what he supplies with his snorkels. jules
Ask Ali (Reads90) to get you one in Aus and post it over thats what I do shouldn't cost more than a five once he has posted it back over here. Is it a safari one (should have asked that first)

roguevogue
When I needed a new bit of the rubber edging for my Disco wing where the snorkel passes through I phoned Mantec and they took a bit to Billing for me and didn't charge me, I was very impressed with their approach to customer service. May not be the cheapest but you can't fault that sort of service.

May not be the cheapest but you can't fault that sort of service. I bought a Mantec snorkel from John Bowden at Gumtree not long after I got the Nas in '97. It was designed for a LHD 130 but fits the 90 a treat. Apart from the poor paint finish, I have since had the unit galvanised and powder coated, never a problem and even after tree 'surgery' it always bends back to it's original position! Never had to get spares, but from Nick's posting I guess I have no worries.
MudAllOverIt
Rebel 4x4 sorry sir, can't sell you that bit. only if you can prove you hought the original one from us ... our supplier won't let us split snorkels up. they have to be sold as a complete item" I can also confirm this. But doesn't really make sense though cause surely they couldn't sell you an individual part even you did buy the snorkel from them cause apparently "they have to be sold as a complete item"? But I know for a fact they supplied a friend of ours with a new hose when he was able to supply a copy of his receipt Mantec Superb. No problem getting a replacement middle hose even though I didn't buy the original from them.
michael calvert
if in real failure mm4x4 sell a identical snorkel for about 55-60 quid surely they split it, what about changing - some nice smaco silicone hoses?????

nicksmelly
I'm sure Rebel won't give a monkeys about bad publicity. There will be a thousand and one other punters along shortly to buy their cheap stuff. I live quite local to them, thought i'd contact them to go and collect an order I placed, didnt want to pay for postage... they told me to go away, don't do customer collection. Hmmm... their offices are in a semi detached house in Bolton. Anyway, with all the bad publicity Scrapiron has had on here and other forums, it doesn't seem to have done them much harm... there's always more poeople out there wanting to bling their motors up. I smell

darthdicky
I needed an extra under bonnet hose for my Mantec snorkel that I'd bought second hand so emailed Mantec and explained the situation but they said "Sorry we can only supply part kits if it's an original air intake purchased from us which is worn or damaged". So I rang them up, lied and said mine had worn through and they sold me another one. £42 for the underbonnet hose I think, so I doubt the above wing bit would be cheap either! Wasn't impressed then but I've since had some bits sent out free of charge when I had a problem with my rear wheel carrier so they're not too bad. Guest diesel_jim
I just went into Bearmach in Swindon..... "no problem, £21, we'll get you one in" wasn't that easy? why couldn't rebel be as useful? i suspect if rebel were to sell them, they they would be cheaper, but as Bearmach were so helpful, i'll be going back there! (well, i usually shop there anyway)
BogMonster
I deal with Bearmach regularly at work and they have always been brilliant, some of the own-brand stuff is not of a quality I would fit to my own vehicle (he said tactfully!) but they are always very helpful and the prices are good too
