.....

At the suggestion of one of the banks, I have Trusteer Rapport installed on my home PC, and blocking keyloggong is apparently one of its attributes. I'm just interested if someone is apparently collecting my keystrokes at the receiving end.

Cheers.

There are ways around suspected keyloggers,

First if it is your computer try not to get any on it, I am no tech person but as Dave says this isn't always as easy as it seems.

If you are on a shared or work computer you will not normally have much control of the anti virus and security in use, and if you work away a lot as I do then you have little choice but to use these computers.

So first within the Windows system under accessories there is an option for a "virtual keyboard" this creates a on screen keyboard operated by mouse clicks so no keystrokes to log although it is a bit difficult to use.

Next whilst typing a password deliberately click out side the browser and then type some more letters or delete a few times before going back to the password and continuing.

Neither of theses are rocket science and if a more sophisticated keylogger is in use they may not work but if you have to use an unknown computer it at least makes it more difficult for them and gives you an extra chance.

The SMS system is no use to me as I work away (for several weeks at a time) and don't have any access to the mobile network whilst working so it would effectively lock me out of any online transactions for most of the years.

As I said previously I am protected by the RSI key however the scamers are getting better I received a very good looking Phishing email this morning which did panic me slightly for a couple of seconds given Les's troubles. No I didn't click on it!!

Thanks for that.

It quickly became clear I'm not one of the speakers ideal target audience, but that aside, the conclusion I take away is that the programme offers no real protection, BUT if I choose to not run the programme the Bank MAY penalise me in the event of false instructions being received by them, apparently from me, resulting in financial loss.

Thanks again, I wouldn't normally go looking for such You Tube downloads.

Sorry I should have said it was a technical talk aimed at software people, however you have come away with the correct conclusions :) Lots of smoke and mirrors with no real security.
