EGT Sensor On 300 TDI

Firstly, Thanks for your time on reading this. I am after some advice & idea's on where to fit the sensor for my EGT gauge. I am currently thinking of using the EGR blanking plate to fix the sensor.

Has anyone else done it that way or is there a more suitable place for it.

Thanks again

Matt.

The 'normal' (and easiest) place is through the EGR blanking plate. But I wanted mine closer to a valve so drilled and tapped the manifold by no. 1 cylinder. Being cast iron the manifold is easy to work. Used lots of grease on the drill and tap to stop swarf falling into the donk. My 'meter' is actually a 12v digital furnace controller - it is programmed to switch off at a certain temp (I use 725°C) and this switch is used to power a buzzer just in case I don't notice the temp being high.

Why is the temp high you may ask? Because I have 'tweaked' the injector pump.

I let the temp stabilise to 200°C before switching off. This can be instantaneous if stopped after going downhill or can take a long time to come down as when pulling off a motorway to refuel (I refuel with the engine running). What I can say is that my turbo is still perfect at 300k kms (187k miles). So that seems to help - along with regular oil changes.

I should have also added to go to their "Home" page and you will see a photo of a 300TDi Disco install, I put my display in the coin holder though as I use the three switches for fog, driving lights and high level (roof) reversing lights.
