pupstew
Has anyone heard about a method for taking up the slack on the shaft between the front and rear axles? got this from another forum but im not convinced it will really do anything... It goes a little something like this......... "Try this -> 1. park facing downward on a hill. 2. pull hand brake, release all gears and footbrake 3. move the differential to low (clutch in) 4. move the differential to high 5. move the differential to diff lock in high 6. roll the vehicle slightly forward till the 'diff lock' light engages 7. release the diff lock this usually forces up the 'slack' between the back and front axle on a vehicle that might have problems on the CV joints." (http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/knocking-noise-rear-transmission-22145.html) Thoughts?
vulcan bomber
erm.... Sounds like a big load of carp to me. Onoy way of removing slack is replacing any worn bits.

19MART82
i'll 3rd that, even IF it did take up any slack (and i cant see how it would) it would only unwind again the first corner you go round
Les Henson
Sure it'll take up the slack - until you move again Les.

Les Henson
Very good description on how to wind up the transmission though Les.
MrKev
I was waiting for the bit where you have to stand on one leg, then turn round three times, whilst spelling out 'landrover' backwards. Assuming you then take it out off diff lock before driving, I can't see it having any effect whatsoever.
Eightpot
Why does the guy advise going to all that trouble, when you could simply tighten the clutch plate? tsch.
Les Henson
I always rotate the gangle pin 90-deg, then re-torque the glibshaft. Works for me every time. Les
