Gear change woes

Trouble is:- Discovery LT77 main gear lever has gone all "floppy". Instead of resting at the 3rd 4th gate in the neutral position it now falls all the way over in 5th gear position. There's still resistance to going into reverse from a spring but no guidance at all for selecting 3rd and 4th. She who must be obeyed hates this with a passion. I think the bias spring (springs?) is the culprit. Is this located in the gear selector housing? Anyone know the part numbers?

Anyone out there know if this can be accessed without having to drop the transmission.

We're talking Discovery 1 here. eek.gif

If it was the 110 I'd pull the floor and have a look. rolleyes.gif

Can it be accessed as easily on a Discovery?confused.gif

As Western says you need to remove the centre consol and the rubber gaitor beneath it in order to diagnose the cause. Once they are off you can remove the gear lever housing (two screws) and the springs and bias plate are on view.
