keithjh
Hi all, Really as it says do i need a reversing light for the MOT? Reason for question i have fitted a 300tdi + Auto box to a 110, and have no idea how to wire it in, i was going to wire it to a seperate switch but not sure if thats allowed. Jimmy Two-Jacks
You don't need one for an MOT but if one is fitted I think it has to work. I don't think a separate switch set up will pass muster with MOT bods but I could be wrong. Cheers J2J
mikeyb13
Reversing light is not a testable item so it doesnt need to work for mot
western
But if fitted it must work to comply with vehicle lighting regulations.
mikeyb13
It doesnt need to work. Its not even turned on during the mot test.
western
didn't say it was turned on or tested at MOT, just noted that if it's fitted it should work otherwise there's no point having it on the vehicle, http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/14/made
team-anarchy
mikeyb13 is right, you wont fail an mot for not having a working reverse light, its not a tested part of the car.
Landowner
I thought that only obligatory lights were tested Its not a fail if your spotlamps dont work for instance
Retroanaconda
I think you're misunderstood Ralph's point. He is saying that it is not required for the MOT (not a testable item as above), but it is required under UK law (RVLR) to work if fitted. I.E. You can take it to the MOT station with a broken light and it will pass, but driving it on the road in that state is in contravention of said regulations. Paul Woodward
The reverse light switch is on the side of the auto box where the shifter shaft is. There are 4 wires, 2 are for the starter inhibitor and the other 2 are for the reversing light.
L19MUD
Paul has given the best (and correct!) answer here, its only 2 wires, just fix it!
