PGM316
I was watching Wheeler Dealers, they bought and sold a Stage 1 V8; http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_305357-Land-Rover-V8-Stage-1-1981.html I really like the front, much less plasticy than the Defender. Wondered how hard it would be to give a Defender the Stage 1 look. Although it would feel a bit wrong to make it none original, neither one thing nor the other... muddy
Unscrew the defender grill, screw the stage one grill on. Put six blanking plugs in the redundant screw holes. Head lamp bezels will also fit i believe. Drink tea/beer/cider.
PGM316
So, not, overly complex Has anyone done this?
western
as easy as muddy has said, when you take the existing grille off you see the indent where the Stage 1 grille sits in. 90/110 where the Stage 2 of the LR improvements.
Baz2236
mine is similar as it has not got the plastic lights surrounds like most but i have a normal defender grill. I have got the plastic light surrounds to fit but i prefer it with out as it looks a little differnt.

I'll do that with mine, probably leave the grill, would be a good compromise.
Mo Murphy
Good luck finding a grille ! They are few and far between and priced accordingly. IMHO, the best place for them is on one of the dwindling number of pukka stage ones still on the road. Mo

muddy
You can make them from woven or weld mesh, woven SS works well. I picked up a stage one grill panel and grill for a fiver wich I was chuffed with.
