fozsug
Hi, new to the series forum. I have just 'acquiered' a 1971 109 2.6 petrol , that is in suprisingly solid condition, apart from the rear cross member, the chassis is solid with a bit of surface rust. It looks like someone has striped it down and put a good second hand bulkhead in, started to put it back together and not finished, so a lot of the wiring is not connected, the wipers , some of the dash etc has not been refited. So a few questions fot the Series Guru's The electric fuel pump is u/s, are these still available, its the SU one with two inputs and one output with a motor on each end? I have had the engine running, very sweetly too, but the carb is leaking from the bottom, from the big brass plug, can you get rebuild kits for these? Looking at the springs underneath, it has the shackles of a 1 ton( with the extra bolt in the middle) , is there a list of chassis numbers somewhere i can corespond mine against to see if it is a 1 ton , a military,or just a normal 109? What spark plus are best for the staight six, Champion or NGK? The brake pedal is siezed solid , master cylinder? Are wiring harnesses available or is it make youre own? Thanks in advance Tony
western
Autsparks http://www.autosparks.co.uk/index.php?cPath=74 can supply all the main wiring looms, they use the standard LR colour codes & cnnections. Series 3 parts & workshop manuals here http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/2010/03/series-iii-parts-book/ & http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/2010/03/series-iii-workshop-manual/click the links & you can read them online or download to your PC. secondjeremy
Harness: http://www.autosparks.co.uk/ Fuel pumps: http://www.dingocroft.co.uk/acatalog/Fuel_Pumps.html Zenith Stromberg carb - from recollection the brass plug at the bottom may be sealed with an 'O' ring which is probably a general engineering part - ie available as part of a lavatory cistern repair pack from B & Q or in a box of all types (possibly an imperial one. Otherwise : http://www.dingocroft.co.uk/acatalog/Carburetors.html Spark plugs - try one of the same reach - if it oils go for a softer one - pinks - try harder. My own experience is that otherwise it doesn't make any difference. (never run a LR 6 cylinder)

Regarding the chassis numbers, there will be some in the LR Workshop manuals, but start with some of the pinned posts in this Series 2 Club forum section Note that the Timeline is a downloadable PDF file. FridgeFreezer
Mine was a 6cyl, the fuel pump was the same as early RRC's - a Facet red top by any other name. Does this mean I can dig all my spare Series bits out of the shed and donate them to the cause?
fozsug
The pump on mine is an SU AUB650 with two inputs and one output, at £ 300 odd i will not be getting one of them http://www.rbspares.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=&product_id=2107&category_id=41&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=59 As for other spares , what have you got? FridgeFreezer
Not sure about all of what I've got, various bizarre oddments really - might even have a rebuild kit for that pump in fact! I'll have to dig in the shed and drop it over as I find it - house move has filled the shed to the ceiling with stuff!

Hi, it does look like it could be a 1-Ton. The registration looks to be factory issued, and the only factory used series III was built after yours was registered. The factory reg could be a clue to an interesting history though. Assuming you know the chassis number, have a look at www.onetonlandrover.co.uk which should inform you. What axles are under it?
