danebrewer
Hi all, again some conversion help..... a lot of guides recommend re-using your 2.5 NA D engine loom on the 300 Tdi when you convert it, I'l also be doing this but I'll get a new one from autosparks as the old one is pretty stiff and crappy.... the thing is, Autosparks don't do a 300 Tdi loom, or apparently they don't know what one looks like, so they seem unable to do anything untill I send them some pics of the 300 alternator, question is, what do the wires all do? (the latest one they do is a 200 Tdi looom) <a href=" title="DSC_1901 by danebrewer12, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8159/7348612802_f550a93032_c.jpg" width="535" height="800" alt="DSC_1901"></a> this is the 65 amp alternator on on my NA, it looks like the left most one is the main cable carrying the charging current to the battery, but what do the other two do? on the 300 alternator (below) it looks like the thick wire is the charging wire, one I guess is the feed for the charging light to say the alternator's working, but the other one? looks again like a warning light wire? <a href=" title="DSC_1908 by danebrewer12, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7214/7163419803_4b95d3dbaa_c.jpg" width="800" height="535" alt="DSC_1908"></a> <a href=" title="DSC_1909 by danebrewer12, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7075/7348623648_9edc6106e8_c.jpg" width="800" height="535" alt="DSC_1909"></a> some help identifying these'd be great so I have some idea of what I'm talking about when I try to explain what I want from autosparks! Cheers D
Orgasmic Farmer
Is it a 300 tdi from a disco? One of the small wires is for the rev counter, the other for the warn light and the biggest one for the battery charge. I just used the 300 tdi loom from the disco and fitted a multiplug connector at the bulkhead to mate everything up.
cackshifter
Some alternators have a voltage remote sensing wire - it normally goes to the same place as the thick one, but it enables the alternator to compensate for voltage drop in the thick wire. A wire to the 'W' terminal might to drive a rev counter.
