minimaquinas
hi guys has any 1 got any ideas on stopping my rear springs from popping out of their seats it is a 110 with the double springs 1 inside the other when i go on rough tracks the rear outer springs pop out of their seats at the top and i have to either jack the car up to put back in place or get the crow bar to it is there a way of clamping them in place thanks in advance brian
Landy-Novice
dislocation cones. if you don't know what they are, they guide the spring back into its seat without jack or crow bars.
jai_landrover
Or much cheaper a couple of jubilee clips at the top of the spring around the top coil and its seat. far cheaper than dislocation cones
pete3000
http://www.terrafirma4x4.com/products_php.php?cat=1&grp=22 Sure someone else used to make them originally, but can't remember who. May have been Southdown although all traces of shiny metal things off their site have gone

Landy-Novice
like this? only problem with that is it limits suspension travel and obviously you lose traction, if you fit them the you may as well fit shorter shocks..
mmgemini
I've double rear springs fitted with standard 130 rear shocks on my 110 SW. Not had this problem. What outer springs do you have ? Are the inners moving ? I too would go for hose clips.
vulcan bomber
like this? only problem with that is it limits suspension travel and obviously you lose traction, if you fit them the you may as well fit shorter shocks.. but you lose traction with no spring pressure to make the tyre dig in. minimaquinas
hi just a update they are standard springs the inner springs dont move it is the outer springs that always move off to 1 side looked at dislocation cones but no good as it has got inner springs
mmgemini
Which "standard" springs ? If the outer springs are moving then how good are they ? It seems that they're too short with the helper spring in there. The other thing I thought about was tyre pressures. What are you running those at. I take it it's a station wagon ? lrfarmer
jubilee clips all the way i have them on mine with standered springs
landroversforever
but you lose traction with no spring pressure to make the tyre dig in. I know there are various schools of thought but, you can only loose by fully retaining. You will have more traction on a wheel with a dislocated spring than you will with the wheel waggling in the air, or being partially supported by the spring. Landy-Novice
if you dont want dislocation cones, you can fit check straps.

simonb
Trouble is, if the spring doesn't reseat properly it can catch on the tyre and ruin that.. found out the hardway, hence jubilee clips fitted to mine.
