TRANSMISSION FAULT TRACTION REDUCED

Recommended Posts

Hello, I recently bought a 2007 Freelander 2. After getting it home it beeped up on the dash TRANSMISSION FAULT TRACTION REDUCED. It then flashed up every time I drove it for the first 2 days. The car drives fine.

I contacted the garage who told me to take it back which I am about to do, trouble is it has now stopped coming up. I have read that it may be that the battery was holding a low charge from sitting in the forecourt.

What do you guys think?

Hi the fault was probably due to the rear hallex unit (connects the rear prop to the diff to make it 4x4) there are issues with them either the pumps stop working or block up due to the clutch pack plates breaking up or the ecu on the side goes wrong. Lr brought out a service action/ recall for a auto box and hallex downloads.

To help save the unit.

Any progress with this, would be very interested to hear the end result on this one as I have the same problem on my Freelander2, also a 2007.

Hi sorry didn't see your reply. Still does it. It is odd it only does it if the car is started hot/warm and if you switch it to an off road setting it goes away. It runs fine though.

Have you resolved it on yours?

Went to the car yesterday put the key in the dash and nada.

I went round and asked a local specialist what he thought the problem was. Straight away and without hesitation he said "it's your battery".

New battery fitted and boom the TRANSMISSION FAULT TRACTION REDUCED message has gone. I will keep an eye on it but hopefully that will be the end of that.

Hi Gents,

Just a suggestion, but this makes me think alternator with an intermittent fault. We had all this on my son's car recently. It wasn't until the alternator packed up completely that the problem became obvious.

Hope this helps. - Jonners

Best part of 2 years I've had the car now. It had continued to flash up the fault. Usually if the car is started warm I.e. at the petrol station or the shops.

Until now...

There was a howl which sounded to me like it might be diff related. Turns out it was the nsf wheel bearing. Changed that and the fault appears to have gone. 1 week now without it flashing up

Weird.

Just wondering if the problem is still fixed? My 2010 FR2 had a full diff replacement last year, new pinion bearings about a week ago and it's just started showing the same fault. LR have now also replaced the haldex pump, diff sensor and have done a software upgrade. Booked in again for this Wednesday, anyone got any other ideas of what it might be?

I'm thinking something electrical / wiring???

A couple of years + ago i had the same fault keep appearing, then my battery gave up the ghost, I replaced the battery, and lo and behold the fault disappeared. Wind on 2 years and the fault came back, I realised I was only doing short journeys with lights, heater, air con and sometimes wipers, I also jump started a jag a couple of times.  Switched all power drains off, picked a nice day and went out for a 50 mile run. what do you know the fault disappeared. Try this before you try any expensive garage solutions!

Hi

I have this problem. Do you really meant the Clutch wear, creates debris in the pumpt? I sais this to my mechanic and he laughed and said there was no connection between the clutch and the rear diff/pump.

Thank

Graham

The rear diff is a Haldex unit which has a series of clutch plates integrated into it - its how it works, the reference was to the Haldex clutch plates not the main engine-gearbox clutch.
