Landy4ducks
Been checking over my 1986 LR90 for squeaking and clunking noises and found the rear UJ needs replacing. Whilst inspecting that was also told about a Sacrificial Drive Flange on the wheels - checked the front and you can see some play when rotating the prop (axle is jacked up). Question? Is this the same as the Driving Member or Drive Flange? Been checking through Microcat and cant find any reference to Sacrificial flange. CwazyWabbit
Part 16 is a Drive member. This is somewhat sacrificial
western
drive member or drive flange = same thing, not heard or seen it listed as sacraficial, they are softer material than the harder drive shaft so the drive member spline do wear quicker than the shaft spline. western
put a splash of gear oil EP90 in the plastic end cap before refitting it, the splines will love you forever.

mmgemini
Yes it's sacrificial. Although I suppose some people would think it's easier to remove the broken bits from inside a Salisbury diff then change the drive flange ! ! ! ! If you take the oil seal from inside the axle that Land Rover had fitted to the Salisbury. Then the diff oil will also lubricate the splines.
