Bush65
I only know of 1 person who has done a 4BD1-T to rangie ZF auto conversion. After 2 or 3 ZF failures he formed the obvious opinion that these autos will not survive behind a healthy 4BD1-T. He has fitted an LT95 for the moment. If you are talking of the Torqueflite auto, they could be built strong enough, but lacking an overdrive top gear is a disadvantage, because a 4BD1 won't rev much over 3000 if you are lucky. A 4BD1-T has so much torque at idle that with an auto your brakes won't hold you in low range. Having said that, they are great engines (IMHO the best engine ever fitted by Landrover - but only in Australia) and worth the effort of getting the transmission right.
