rudd86
my 200tdi has got a line of black oil leaking from the head gasket area all around the top of the block, notibly more so under the turbo and at the back end, its not a massive leak but its annoying me as im wondering if im missing classic head gasket failure signs it has no water in the oil or vice versa, no mayo under filler cap and it doesnt use any water am I missing something or does this seem normal? it does seem a little down on power if im honest. if it is the head gasket starting to go, is it possible to re-torque the head bolts and see if it stops the leak or shall I just do it properly with the head off etc....? over to you guys. western
might be a poor rocker cover & the half circular seals are leaking, easy to replace.

Mine is similar, but i think it is the rocker cover seal as Ralph suggests. On mine, performance is great (accelerates well, no white smoke and will sit at 85mph happily), no water or oil use and no water in oil or vice versa, so i dont think my HG has gone. Then why isn't there oil on the top of the head and the rocker cover ? ?
Mo Murphy
In the absence of pictures, I'd be inclined to go along with Uncle Mike and suggest the inlet manifold gasket, a common job on Tdis. Perhaps you could post some pictures up, that would help diagnosis. HTH Mo
