isbjorn
Hi. Ive spend a considerate amount of time patching up oil and fuel leaks on my 200 tdi. And now Ive only got one major leak left, and I cant find it. Can someone help me track it down? Lets follow the leak from reverse. it ends on the sump box. comes down via the sump plug from the oil return pipe goes forward along the top edge of the sump cover Goes up on the engine block wall and in behind the engine mount. And then disappears... everything above the engine mount is all dry and clean... Ive checked the oil filter assemble, its all dry and good. (but a bit filthy) Ive replaced the square oilfilter return hose thingy that is next to it. All dry and fine. the top of the engine mount is all dry and nice. I do have a small leak on the diesel injector pipe assembly, but I can not figure out hpw that could leak oil in the amount Im getting. Or how it can possible wander down all the way to the sump cover.... and it should be diesel not oil right?
Simon Smith
I had that once on a brand new 200Tdi in the last 110. They had forgotten to seal one of the drillings in the block which go dow to the cam bearings, they are just sealed with a squirt of silicone in each hole. isbjorn
How do I reach them, from the inside?
western
you don't, the 3 bungs are on the outside of the block below cylinder head, part number ERR5034, see item 13 on page 171 http://www.retroanac...V8_p168-299.pdf picture of the bungs here http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?xProd=85068
isbjorn
you don't, as in, You have to remove the whole engine because its behind the engine mount?
western
my reply above was in reference to the cam bearing drillings in the engine block, you can support the engine & remove the engine mount parts to clean behind them, don't forget a small amount of leaking fluid can look like a massive leak as it travels down to the ground. isbjorn
Thanks for the advice. I didn't even know there was a hole behind there. Ill do as you suggested and hopefully that will be the solution. Its not leaking that much, but enough to tiddle of everyone I'm visiting thanks. isbjorn
Well, we found it. It turns out there is a super small hole in the engine block behind the engine mount. Probably a manufacturing error that with time has become a hole. It was giving a constant fine little trikle of oil. But now its seald up and the car is dry... Thanks for all the help.
