OilIT
Just wanted to thank 'Dave' for the tip on the tech archive for the long studs for transfer box removal - changed the oil seal on my gearbox today - and the job was really easy !!!! white90
yes indeed a superb tip But if you have an under drive fitted you have to remove it before trying to use long studs as there isn't the room to remove the T box with the underdrive inplace. Coastcard
the job was really easy !!!! As a matter of interest, if you are like most of us grovelling under a vehicle supported on axle stands, did you 'bench press' it out with human strength or use some mechanical assistance. I am interested as I need to do the job and am never quite sure the best way to lift/drop these things out. Ususally a lot heavier than they look!! OilIT
trolley jack to aid but it isn't that heavy just awkward Bench Press (crikey!!!), sorry - I havent done anything like that for years (in fact I'm not sure I ever have) !!! No I used a trolley jack to take the weight, then wheeled the jack backwards and the tx box slid along the threaded bar (I used a 1m length of threaded bar and cut it into 1/4s as it was a LOT cheaper that way and it gave me a little bit more length from memory) This brings the tx box back far enough to remove the oil seals and replace them. Good luck !
