oneandtwo
When I turn the ignition on, the 200TDi dash voltmeter swings all the way to the right past the graduations and sits on the needle stop, engine running or not. The voltage across the terminals is 12.4V, I am guessing the voltmeter is faulty? Anyone know if they are fixable? Thanks
LiamC
That does sound like its faulty, there may be some kind of internal shunt that has failed or become disconnected I prefer a volt meter that has actual voltages marked which gives a better idea of what's going on. Something like this might be a suitable replacement: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-UNIVERSAL-BATTERY-CONDITION-VOLT-METER-GAUGE-52MM-Genuine-Durite-/230726854407?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b8646707
western
I'd say it was faulty too, my one just rose slowly to the battery or alternator output depending if engine was running or not.
jbs
If I was you I would check the bracket on the rear of the gauge as I had the same problem as you describe and it turned out to be the bracket was in contact with the positive feed of the gauge and it(the bracket being earthed) was shorting out the gauge and reading as you have so accurately described. If It's not that then it'll be fubarr'd HTH John
oneandtwo
Its had it, I took it out and connected it straight to a battery and still shoots off the scale. Anyone got a spare to fill the hole?
