1988 110 Project

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just started tearing my 110 down to sort out a few metal cancer issues the bulkhead and chassis have aquired, turns out the bulkhead is absolutly knackered, few half assed repairs with fibreglass has seen it all into a really poor shape, the chassis is Not so bad but a bit to much welding for me to sort out as i plan on having this baby till the day i leave this planet, im trying to do this rebuild to a good standard and on a limited budget and would appreciate any tips and pointers on where to s save money and whats best ti spend my money on where it will last, ideally looking to build an honest workhorse thats gonna last a good few years thanks in advqnce guys

It all depends on whether you can weld to a high standard and have the kit. If not then a new galvenised chassis and a good second hand bulkhead is going to set you back about £2K but after that your rebuild will be away and on solid ground. If you can weld then a new rear crossmember, new outriggers and a few weld made patches should allow you to save your own chassis and if you then sent it for galvanising you would probably end up with a bill nearer £600 total. You will still need a good bulkhead which could be anything from £100 - £400 depending on how lucky you get.

Im not a competent welder so to speak, this chassis seems in a pretty bad state, the front o/s chassis leg from the torsion bar forward has been really badly affected, all along the under side of the chassis there are various holes along the seem, outriggers and rear x-member are in

decent nick. Look to have been replaced at some point in the last decade atleast, bulkhed is bad on the n/s door pillar and panel are almost non existant, im mid strip down just now so will hopefully see the full extent afor the week is out, its coming down to the ground anyway as i dont want to do this again in a hurry unless im getting paid haha
