CJ1
A lot of people on here know I have spent a crazy amount on my Freelander 1.8 which now has a replacement engine with a warranty on it, however I think there is a possibility that my car is losing coolant again. Only a very very tiny amount. It may be the way I have parked, but not sure. Anyway what I want to ask is: The cap that goes on the expansion bottle does up tight and then clicks and loosens itself slightly without it unscrewing but on the old tank the cap screwed on tight. Is my expansion cap supposed to do this? Or do I need to find a replacement cap? Cheers.
defv890
This is normal for the later tank Due to the amount u have spent I would recommend if u have a 1.8 to fit the coolant level sensor mod as will save the engine if the level drops As for ur loss I suspect it's the heater matrix ?? bawnmore11
Also interested in the coolant level mod. Looking on the internet shows a number but wondering if there is a recommended one?
defv890
Hi there is a tsb from l/rover If u contact ur parts there is a kit for pre or post 1a 1.8 if u have a pre 1a it includes a jumper loom connects below the engine ecu where there is a row of connectors (n/s). Also a new header tank and float sensor unit. On post 1a u get a small loom from sensor to ecu where u add 2 wires to the main connector on the ecu. Both put the engine warning light on when the level drops to low ( does not store a fault just top up and light goes out) Note for post 1a will need software update to work correctly normally dealer charge 1/2 hr Hope this helps when I am back at work will add the bulletin number ( on course at mo at gaydon)

CJ1
I couldn't find any more information on the genuine part, but it would be very easy to buy an aftermarket level sensor off of somewhere like Ebay and retrofit it to your car with an led light mounted in the cabin somewhere. western
there is no reason why you cannot fit it to a older vehicle.

TRnigel
Hi slightly off topic, my 05 Freelander has the coolant level sensor Recently after a few miles the warning light comes on even though coolant level in expansion bottle is fine After a few hours with the engine switched off the light stays off but comes back on after a few miles Thanks
